The exposed original oak frame and beams contrast with the honed and polished travertine flooring and clean lines of the new insertions. The steel and solid oak tread staircase with glass balustrading features in the double height new entrance hall behind the new oak frame gable. In the bathrooms, a more traditional approach was taken with painted wooden panelling and free-standing vanity unit furniture and traditional sanitaryware.

Built by the owners themselves using a timberframe the use of clay tiles and black horizontal timber cladding give the home a traditional rural building appearance.

Adjacent to Thursley Common, the new house has been designed to reflect the style and materials of a traditional gambrel roofed rural barn with black stained horizontal timber cladding and a plain clay tile roof. The overhanging eaves, brick plinth and zinc finish to the rainwater goods all help maintain this rural feel.

A blend of traditional stonework and roof forms with contemporary features this new house sits within a secluded site in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and was granted permission by Mole Valley District Council in December 2016.

The oak cladding and cedar shingle roof are complemented with copper rainwater goods and painted timber windows. 

The house is raised above the flood levels by around 1m with a rear raised timber deck allowing flood waters to flow beneath the house in extreme cases.
