A planning application was submitted to East Hants District Council this week for this contemporary two storey rear extension to a property within the South Downs National Park. the rear of the house benefits from overlooking a large open meadow while to the side the views are over the valley below Worldham Hill.

The open corner glazed scheme with extensive decked area makes the most of the views and allows natural light to flood into the existing gloomy interior.

Despite problems including roosting bats, objections from the parish council, objections from the planning officer regarding ridge heights, materials, and overall bulk Hart District Council have granted planning permission for the conversion of a run-down bungalow into a new two-storey house in Fleet, Hampshire.

Carefully detailed research on the surrounding streets and properties enabled a report to be put to the planners to demonstrate the wide variety of materials and architectural styles in the area. Likewise, a detailed Ecology Report carried out specifying mitigation methods, timings etc will ensure that disruption to the local bat population is kept to a minimum.

East Hampshire District Council Planner granted full planning permission last week for the constuction of two new contemporary homes set within woodland on the edge of the village of Four Marks. The site, bounded to the north by the Watercress steam railway line, offered many challenges to overcome including TPO’d trees, root protection zones extending across much of the site, a sloping site and acoustic protection from the adjacent A31.

More details and images can be found here.

A Full Planning Application has been submitted to East Hants District Council for the construction of two new Contemporary homes for one of our private clients.

The site in Four Marks, Hampshire, is surrounded by protected trees whose Root Protection Zones cover almost the entire site. Use of a piled foundation system with suspended ground floor slabs lifted out of the ground will prevent damage to the roots and will ensure that ground water is still able to get to the roots.

The use of additional insulation, tight air-leakage limits, whole house ventilation with heat recovery, air source heat pumps and wood burning stoves with LED lighting throughout will mean that the energy usage of these buildings is kept to a minimum.  Locally sourced sweet chestnut cladding and rainwater harvesting utilising the space below the ground floor slabs add to the environmental credentials of these houses. As the sweet chestnut weathers and silvers naturally the sculptural houses will blend further into their woodland setting.

Adjacent to the A31, acoustic screening and a heavy masonry structure will limit noise from one side of the site while the north of the site will benefit positively from the passing sound of the occasional train along the adjacent Watercress Line, a volunteer and enthusiast run local steam train line.
