Regular followers of our Twitter feed (@bwp_architects) and our Blog (www.bwparchitects.com/blog) will know that in November 2011 the three partners all decided to take part in ‘Movember’ – a world-wide charity event which sees men growing moustaches in aid of Prostate and Testicular Cancer charities.

Well, the final money is now in and we’re delighted to report that between us we managed to raise a total of £935…. not too shabby for doing very little (apart from itching alot and listening to complaints from the children….)!

Here’s what one client said…

Just a quick note to thank you for your time and assistance yesterday. You were able to provide us with lots of ideas and advice in a short period of time and solved the problem of designing in a study. We now have a firm view of how to move forward on our remodelling project which we didn’t have before the meeting. You could build a second career in marriage guidance counselling!

We are pleased to announce that the £147,000 project to provide a new 6 bedroom care home for the Registered Care Charity The Field Lane Foundation was handed over to the client today.

An existing single dwelling house has been completely remodelled to provide supported housing for people with learning difficulties. The result is a six bedroom home, each complete with modern ensuite bathrooms, together with a new large communual lounge and kitchen area. It was a particular requirement of the brief that the project avoid the austere institutional feel of many such developments and provide the charity with somewhere which has the feeling of a real home. Careful selection of the finishes was needed to ensure that while this aim was acheived the requirements for the end users were also met.

Over the weekend of 12th / 13th July partner Leigh Brooks successfully managed to “The 3 Peaks Challenge” to help fundraise for St Andrews School’s Project 2010 Charity.

The 3 Peaks Challenge is to climb the three highest points of the British Isles within 24 hours… including all the travelling time between them!

  • Ben Nevis was completed in 4 hrs 35 mins (that’s a climb of over 4,100ft)
  • Scafell Pike was completed in 3 hrs 19 mins (a climb of around 3,200ft)
  • Snowdon was completed in 3 hrs 29 mins (a climb of around 2,500ft)
  • Total time including driving 23 hrs 08 minutes!

A resounding success made even more sweeter by knowing that around 30% of people attempting the challenge drop out part way through and that of those that finish only around 30% actually manage to beat the 24 hr time!

Time to collect those sponsorship pledges!
